1. Goats have to roam a lot and. 2. Goats eat lot of feed.
Both these are incorrect as goats can be maintained in stalls/sheds with sufficient space for roaming for excercise and with sufficient and nutritional feed.In stalls goats grow faster than in extensive graging system where lot of energy is spent which is wasted. In stall fed system goats grow early and gain good weight in shorter time.
Stall-fed Goat farming is in initial stages in INDIA.After Green Revolution,Dairy,Poultry and Aqua revolution now it is Meat Revolution that is going to take place in INDIA.Stall-fed Goat farming is more profitable compared with Poultry whose feed consisting of grain is costilier than grass (cellulosic) feeds of goats i.e.,goats can digest cellulose present in grasses with help of symbiotic micro -organisms present in their digestive system, and meat is costilier than Chicken. Our mission is to propagate stall-fed goat farms by offering consultancy services and supplying goats.INDIA is land of Goats from time immemorial as our ancestors rightly recognized its importance in society which is lacking in this present generation. There are 20breeds of Goats are there out of 102 breeds of the world.Goat is named by Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi as Poor man's Cow and Mahatma Gandhi used in his food only Goats milk through out his life.Vinobha Bhave too used goats milk.Goat milk consumption can be increased considerably as the per capita consumptionis very low in rural areas. Now with improved irrigation facilities in INDIA Stall-fed Goat farming can be taken up on a large scale as Central and State Governments are also encouraging schemes in this direction. At least every house hold in our country should have 10 goats in rural areas(In Australia there are14 sheep per every person) as per capita consumption of meat is very low when compared with world average, which can be augmented with spread of this new method of rearing goats in sheds/stalls by which only the production of meat can be increased as this technic has to be introduced in goat rearing where now the production is done by age old method of extensive graging by some shepherd castes in our country. And lot of organic fertilizer can be produced by goats, which will reduce centralgovt subsidy bill which is 1 lakh crores now and increasing every year and is not sustainable.
Leather from Goats is very valuable as it is used in making jackets and gloves which are exported to countries wheresevere cold weather conditionsprevail for several months earning good foreign exchange which can beincreased considerably by developing number of stall fed goat farms.
The Agriculture growth rate can be augmented with large scale goat farming in our country.Employment to the rural youth can be generated by this activity where women can easily handle the maintenance of goat farms. And children can be freed from this profession as now the shepherd communitiesare engaging child labour in this profession. In stall feeding goat farms the drudgery of work can be avoided where work will be only for 3-4 hours perday unlike in extensive graging system where persons have to be with goats through out the day roaming around lot of distances by which most of energy of goatsis spent andwasted not converting in to goat's growth and also imparts drudgery to the shepherds.
25 breeder goats can be reared in 1 acre of irrigated land.
